A sweet, medium body with citrus acidity. Notes of caramel, peach, almonds, and red fruits. Aftertaste of cocoa and dried nuts. Elder Stone, a rocky edifice near the base farm of Native Root, stands as a watchman over the coffee cliffs. Its profile is shaped like a human face, reminding founder Ervin Liz of the people who came before him. Elder Stone coffee is a cornerstone blend of Native Root.

The Story Behind

Elder Stone

Elder Stone cliff face Native Root Craft coffee

This amazing coffee is grown by several families in the Togoima indigenous reservation, the land where our founder Ervin Liz was born. Togoima is a mountainous region with deep canyons and massive cliffs. A stone outcropping near Ervin's home resembles a face, which reminds him of his elders. The coffee is grown between 5,905 and 6562 FASL. Characteristic flavors of the coffees grown in this region include caramel, condensed milk, and raw sugar cane. Other flavors - like almonds, citrus, red fruits, and even vanilla - can also be discovered. The famers who grow this coffee are Dilmer and Luz Muchicon, Abraham Nez, Ramiro Pancho, William Nez, Angelica Liz, Hugo Nez, Luis Diaz, Alirio Muchicon, Helena Muchicon, Edith Nez and 10 other families.

#10%andmore

Yes, we pay them 10% more... But that's not where we stop. For many coffee farmers, it's about more than money. It's about dignity and pride in work. That's why their faces are the face of Native Root. By telling their stories, geo-sourcing our beans, and naming the Nasa reservations where they live, we seek to uplift and empower these incredible people - through pay and through pride.
